Yes. Language schools offer beginner courses, and you usually only need to meet either a Japanese or an English requirement.

Can I work part-time while studying?

On a student visa you can apply for work permission, allowing up to 28 hours/week (40 hours during long school breaks).

What's the path from language school to university?

Finish a language school → take the EJU/common test → each university's selection. Routes via vocational school or as a research student are also possible.
