FAQ

FAQ

How many years are needed for permanent residence?

Generally 10 years in Japan (including 5 years of work); for Highly Skilled Professionals, 3 years at 70+ points and 1 year at 80+ points.

What are the requirements for naturalization?

Typically requires 5+ years of residence, good conduct, an independent livelihood, and renouncing your original nationality (in principle). We guide you through the entire process.

Can I leave Japan after getting permanent residence?

Yes, but leaving for over a year at a stretch can affect your permanent-residence status. We recommend applying for a re-entry permit before any long absence.
